Where to Bike in the Central US

By Patricia J Walker

There are so many incredible places to bike in the US that when I tried to narrow it down to five, I realized that I couldn't do it. I ended up cheating a bit and writing out 3 lists. This list is the five best places to go biking in the central US. Please use this as starting point to investigate your adventures, this list is by no means complete.

Waldo Canyon, CO. With literal breathtaking views , especially from the top, this trail doesn't disappoint. At the apex of the ride you will be above the tree line, which is especially unique. There are few rides in this country where you get the feeling that you could touch Heaven itself. The downward ride is memorable and fun as well.

Palmer Park, Colorado Springs, CO. Colorado Springs is a personal favorite so I may be a bit biased about the trails here. Palmer Park offers many trails from beginner to expert. There is an added adventure element as well. There is no discernible way to navigate the park because the maps are incomplete, so you could get lost for a little while, but it is totally worth it. The rock formations impress every time.

Cache Creek to Game Creek Loop, Jackson, WY. Located immediately southeast of the town of Jackson, this trail will seem a little common in the beginning. However, you will not be disappointed after the first 2 miles. Rolling hills, thicket, wildlife and seemingly every kind of flowering plant you can think of line the wide track. This trail works for all fitness levels and is truly beautiful. For a more challenging ride, do the loop backwards.

MOAB in Utah. The MOAB Brand trails in Moab, UT are named for the 4 different letters in the town's name. Starting with M, the easiest trail, and working their way to B, the most difficult, these trails provide a skills challenge no matter what your skill level. If you're a beginner, stick to the rocky terrain of the M trail. For the expert, take the hair pin turns of the B. Most people are somewhere in between and will a great time on the O and A trails. Moab is an otherworldly town not to be missed.

Austin, Texas. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is my favorite place in the great state of Texas. Not only is Austin one of the coolest, quirkiest cities you will ever have the pleasure of visiting with the right mindset this trail is a ton of fun. It is inconsistent in places and you may have to walk in some places but if you are looking for nature in the middle of an urban setting, Barton Creek is a lot of fun. If you can go during the Austin City Limits Music Festival and bike a couple of days you will have lived my dream vacation, I hope you enjoy it.

I'm sure there are more trails out there that are amazing and I'll admit, I haven't seen them all. However, I'm sure those who have experienced these trails will agree with their inherent attributes. Happy Biking. - 22873

Selecting The Right Mens Mountan Bike

By Ted Johnson

The mountain bike needes all have different influences on different users while riding. Some people feel comfortable on the same bike but some don't feel comfort because it does not match the perfection they want. People have different experiences of riding a mountain bike. Some are experts and feel comfortable while riding whereas others are just getting started.

While buying your bike, a few things are taken in your mind that is suitable for you to check. What you have to understand is that your bike has to fit you just like your clothes.

If you can purchase an item which is not fit for you then it become useless because it feels untidy and not smooth or comfortable for you. An example of this is when you are purchasing some clothes which look very good for you. If the size is smaller then you're built then these clothes are useless for you and you end up leaving them in the closet.

While riding your bike for best results your crotch should have a distance of 2 inches from the top horizontal bar of yours bike when you are standing straddled. The size of your bike is also involved your build. If you have a large build and the size of bike you have should be proportionately large. If the size of your bike is a match with your build then your riding is perfect and smooth. There is less chance of uncomfortableness and you are good to go.

This is the standard safety height when you plan on riding your bike in cross country. If you intend doing some fancy stuff which might be a bit aggressive, then this clearance should be more than this.

Riding a mountain bike has a great fun if you are familiar with the riding and your bike is working properly and there is no chance of error in any part of your bike then your bike is moving smoothly. Before riding your bike you can check whether your bike is on riding standards or not. Riding standard has a great impact on your bike for perfection. - 22873

Red Lodge Montana Big Mountain Adventure

By Rusty Squire

I'm going to tell you about the easiest accessed, best-kept back country skiing secrets anywhere in the United States called the Beartooth Pass, so hang on to your hats and get ready to take notes. It pays to call the Montana Department of Transportation ahead of your trip to make sure the Pass is open because several feet of powder can fall up there well in to June. They can be reached at 1-800-226-7623.

Ten miles south of Red Lodge is where the Beartooth Pass begins its climb to the sky. It offers 4,000 vertical feet of big mountain lines when it first opens (check out the photos). If you can't ski all of the steepest stuff that the big names resorts offer then this probably isn't the best place for you. There is a little run off the shoulder of Gardiner headwall that is fairly intermediate but that is about it.

The night before we crashed at a friend's in this really cool, new real estate development called The Spires at Red Lodge and watched the sun set against the 12,000 foot peaks to the west. We couldn't believe that in a ski town where they bordered an 18 hole golf course that they were selling complete cottages for under $200,000 - in this day and age who has heard of anything that affordable in a Rocky Mountain ski town.

We all stayed at this really cool new development called The Spires at Red Lodge the night before and went for a big walk on their trail system marveling at the views of the high peaks to the west. We were amazed by just how affordable Red Lodge Montana real estate is as they were selling complete cottages for under $200,000. We didn't think there was a ski town anywhere where anything left that was this affordable.

With our drop complete we take off up the Pass and are more amazed by the incredible high mountain scenery. Journalist Charles Kuralt called the Beartooth the most beautiful highway in America and we all agree that he got it right.

As we near the top of the west summit we see the head wall we are about to ski. Gardiner head wall is very steep, anywhere from 35 degrees up to 45 degrees, so we are glad that it is 55 degrees outside because the snow should be soft as it faces east in to the early morning light. There is evidence of several small wet slides on either side of the face so we know we need to keep alert.

It is so good that we are all hooting it up half way down like a bunch of owls. After a brief hike we are back at the road and decide to have lunch on the exposed rocks. This had nothing to do with the scantily clad young women who were soaking it up there, honest. It's about a mile drive over to the ridge and then we are looking down at all kinds of sweet big mountain drops that would make the Warren Miller boys salivate.

After a few misfires we found a great line that took us almost to our drop point. I'll let the photo of this line speak the thousand words, but in a word it was AWESOME. Back into the rig we head up to pick-up the rig on the summit so we can set ourselves up to ski yet another big line called the Rock Creek headwall.

The headwall was about the size of most ski areas and dropped straight down to the third to last switchback on the Pass. Cold PBR's were waiting for us and on the trip back we just sat there in stunned silence because we hadn't seen a sole all day long accept for our first descent. - 22873

By Guy Morris

As more and more people are touring around the world, there are getting to be more informative reviews of things to do when traveling. In fact, there are now many reviews about mountain biking and its popularity.

Today, the popularity of the mountain bike is so high that you can now easily find mountain bike tours anywhere in the world! Not only can you find them, but you can take one that is well put together, as well as safe. If you go on a tour, you will have the chance to see all the different places you have never seen before along with getting exercise you don't get on a regular basis.

Before you go on a biking tour, you must make sure that you have all the proper equipment. It may seem to you at first that this new hobby requires a lot of equipment that will add up in dollars. Keep in mind, however, that most of the equipment will last a long time. Many tourist companies will have all the gear that you need as well as provide the bike and helmet, as well. All you have to do is show up!

Before you book your tour through a particular company, you should look at different companies to see which company uses the high skilled bikers. You want to stay within your skill level. Remember there are many beginners like yourself so don't feel insecure if you are new at this. While on the tours, you will want to forget about all your problems and have fun! In fact, you will be faced with different options when booking the tour; such as which type of scenery and wildlife you want. You will be able to ask the guide if you are unsure of what you want.

Once you begin your tour you will begin to notice that you really like the tour, and start thinking about when you want to book your next tour. However, you will also realize that mountain bike tours require a lot of planning; there are different levels of skills, and different sceneries; all that must be taken into consideration. If you are out of the country, you may also go on tours that are in Italy or Costa Brava in Spain! Almost every country has mountain bike tours that are worth checking out! - 22873

Tuning Your Own Mountain Bike

By Jackie Michaels

If you have purchased a mountain bike, the important thing is to understand how to be able to tune up your own mountain bike parts. Some of them particularly you will like to know tune up are discussed here. You have to just keep up general maintenance.

First of all, we have to start with bike's chain. If the chain is not properly functioning then grease it. If the chain needs simple adjustment then strongly pull the chain and count 20 links. Then, measure the chain from pin to pin and look for a maximum up to 10 inches. If it is exceeding 10 inches then it is better to replace it with a new one.

If the chain length is perfect, then you need to clean it and restore it. To clean the chain you can use some kind of citrus solvent with old toothbrush. Scrub the chain with toothbrush by using lubricant as much as the chain needs it. It is necessary to check the bent teeth before tune up. If there are some bent teeth, just use the adjustable wrench and straighten the teeth.

If the mountain bike parts you are looking to get into shape are the wheels and the brakes, there are some other things that you might need to do. In order to check wheels and brakes, simply move the bike to front and back by using front breaks but keep in mine there should be no play when moving front and backward. If play occurs, then you may tight the headset after loosing the bolts.

Checking the hubs should be quite simple. All you have to do is to push the wheel hard enough to move it spin around to or three times. As long as the bike's wheel spins smoothly you are in good shape. Take a notice and make sure while spinning the wheel that there is no lateral movement.

If you generally want to know that how to keep your bike tuned up, stand at front of your bike and check the loose bolts and tighten them. In routine riding bolts come loose by the passage of time. Also check the other parts like bottle cage and the chain ring bolts.

Lubrication is very important to your bike, coat grease slightly and when you do this cleans it immediately. Also lubricate the front suspension for sliders. After doing this, take a moment to clean out grit that might be lodged next to the seal. - 22873

Diving wetsuits - how do they keep you warm

By Clement C.

Is a wetsuits just a wetsuit and are all wetsuits made the same? Can you use a wetsuit that is meant for diving when you go swimming, surfing, windsurfing etc...? To some point you can, wetsuit is designed to keep you warm no matter for what sport it was originally meant. But on the other and wearing a wrong wetsuit can be limiting.

What are the basic requirements of a wet suit? It should fit you snugly and keep you warm. Some are thinner, some thicker, some are lighter and some heavier. The most important thing when choosing a wetsuit is the area where the wet suit will be used. Are you going to be scuba diving in Tahiti or snorkeling in the Seychelles? Alternatively, you could be deep sea diving around Northern Europe, in much colder waters.

The main thing that makes wetsuits work and that keeps us warm is neoprene. Wetsuits are made out of rubbery material called neoprene that contains lots and lots of tinny little bubbles. These bubbles give the neoprene superb insulation capabilities. When you enter the water in your wetsuit another thing happens - a thin layer of water comes between you and your wetsuit and is heated by your body heat. So you are safe in a warm environment.

So how thick wetsuit do you need greatly depends on the water temperature. And water temperature depends on the location and time - where and when are you going to use your wetsuit. Another thing to consider is also your sex. Wetsuits for women are a bit different that wetsuits for men.

Since women have more surface area than men, they tend to feel colder, faster. Hence, it is more practical for a woman to wear a comparatively warmer suit than a man diving in the same area. Ideally, you need to buy a wet suit which is a bit warmer than you require. This is based on the premise that if you are being kept too warm by your wet suit, you can let some water in to cool you down. However, if you feel cold while diving, you dont have much choice but to get out of the water.

The other thing to keep in mind is that a two-piece wet suit is likely to keep you warmer than a one-piece wet suit. The two-piece wet suit has the benefit of double insulation around the groin and chest areas. However, double the insulation also leads to greater restriction in movement and greater buoyancy, which would require you to carry more lead, than you would have to in a one-piece suit of similar thickness.

Now that we have covered the thickness of your wetsuit in relation to the water temperature you need to focus on the fit. Wetsuit needs to fit you, if it is to big, it will fill with water and loose much of its insulation capabilities. Only the right thickness and the right fit will keep you warm and let you dive without the fear of cold. - 22873

Get Some More Information on Equestrian

By Irene Mmari

Horse riding wear is an important condition in terms of both fashion and function - each different equine sport requires different skills and movements from riders, which means riders must wear clothing that permits them to move as they need to. A mass of garments are made to provide head to toe safe-guardion for equestrians.

For equestrian activities, the essential items of clothing are the boots, chaps, gaiters breeches and jodhpurs for the legs, the jacket and body protector for the torso, and the hat for the head. It is essential to know about each one of the types of dress, especially for a starter. Each persons preference may be different but it important to know the basics before purchaseing any dress because horse back horse riding can be expensive and its apparel is no exemption.

The most important dress is the horse riding hat because it protects the riders from falls which can be experienced whether you are in or out of a contest and while horses can be trained they can still be unpredictable. The hat, with its hard shell and impact absorbing lining, provides safeguardion for the rider in case of a fall. It's also important to wear them even if they are not horseback riding because the horse may kick them instead so it's equally best to wear them when dealing with horses while on the ground.

If the horse rider suffers from a fall the hat should be exchanged straight away as the fall can diminish the hat's protection. Every three or four years you should replace your riding hat as its safe-guardive ability decreases over time as the padding compresses with daily use. Three basic headgear are available for the riders with the first one being the classic riding hat which is a traditional velvet hat available brown, black, or navy with a hard peak.

You will also run across the skull cap with is a equestrian helmet that does not have a peak and can be seen worn by most jockeys. For both leisure and contest, numerous horse riders are now choosing peak covers, silks which cover a skull cap to give the appearance of a horseback riding hat. There are also novelty silks ideal for young ones with eyes and ears sewn on them for example. Similar to a cycling equestrian helmet is the skull protector, it is ventilated and lightweight, making those warm summer day rides a lot more comfortable.

Bona fide riding headgear are equipped with a chin strap and are made to conform to riding hat safety standards such as the three that have been established by the United Kingdom. In order to keep the horse rider as safe as possible, a horseback riding hat needs to adhere to at least one of these criteria allowing the chin straps to attach securely to the hat and subsequently onto the riders head. Beginners should be certain to buy a comfortable hat and all horse riders should remember to secure their headgear properly.

Riding headgear are critical pieces of equestrian apparel that protect the horse rider by reducing the risk of severe injury during potentially fatal falls. people who ride horses should not purchase a riding hat that used to belong to somebody else because the damage it sustained throughout the first ownership is not visible from the exterior and has a good chance to not offer as much safety, therefore invariably purchase new hats if you want to be sure. - 22873

5 Great Places for Biking in the American West

By Pat J Williams

Visiting a new city or destination can be soothing for the soul. A great way to take in the local atmosphere is by biking. For this reason, biking vacations have become increasingly popular. The United States offers so many beautiful places to ride; it can be hard to choose where to start. Here is a list of some places on the west coast to bring your bike and get the most of your vacation.

Washington State, Black Diamond Coal Mines. Black Diamond is one of the coolest places in the American West and my favorite place in the Northwest. The Pacific Northwest is an incredible ecosystem in its own and riding the trails through Ravensdale Creek and Lake Sawyer is an incredible way to experience it. Outdoor vacations rule in the Northwest and if you are looking to take your bike you have to go to the coal mines.

Hagg Lake, Oregon. We haven't been back to Hagg Lake in a few years and I miss it. When you arrive you might think you accidentally ended up on a movie set, the beauty is amazing. The fifteen mile trail will give you a bit of a workout but isnt so tough that you won't be able to enjoy yourself at night. It is too hard for most kids and that is why we haven't been in a few years. We will definitely get back when the boys grow up a little bit.

California, Napa Valley. Into riding? Like great food? Enjoy wine? You absolutely have to go to Napa Valley. Some of the worlds most delicious wines are made right in Napa and Sonoma, in California. The rolling hills of the valleys provide an incredible back drop for daytime rides. Your evenings will be spent in some of Americas best restaurants. Its clich, but there truly is something for everyone in these heavenly valleys along the coast of California. These rides are not strenuous but you will be thankful because the evenings will be remembered for a lifetime.

Monterey, CA. Ranging from zero to 150 feet above sea level, 17-mile-drive is one of the beautiful rides in the entire country. Starting from Lovers Point in Pacific Grove (be sure to visit the monarch butterflies), the route follows the rugged shoreline on Oceanview Boulevard and Sunset Drive before turning into the gated community of 5,300-acre Pebble Beach.

Hawaii, Kona. I don't care if its not technically the west coast because Kona is a place that simply can not be missed. The juxtaposition of black lava rock and lush greenery makes you feel like you are riding your bike on some other beautiful planet. The bike trails are a great way to experience the landscape, up close and personal. If you do make it, I recommend saving at least one day to enjoy a message or go snorkeling. Kona is a place that even if you dont ride your bike, you will have an amazing time.

The Western States of the US offer some of the most beautiful coastline and lush landscapes. Truly a biker's paradise, the west coast has not only offers biking vacationers, but has found and increase in people who have chosen to make the west coast their home. - 22873

Get More Information about International Hockey

By Frank De Sousa

Many people don't realize that hockey began in Canada, because it is so widely appreciated in Europe and the United States. Europe experiences a great anticipation for the international men's ice hockey world championships, while Americans focus their attention on the Stanley cup playoffs that are happening at the same time. Unfortunately, Canada, the United States, and other countries with NHL players have not been able to get their best teams because many top players are vying for the Stanley cup trophy.

For many years, professional players could not play at the international level; this is no longer true, and as many Europeans play in the NHL, world championships are not made up of the world's top players any more. The Olympic games began recognizing hockey in 1924; the gold medal went to Canada six out of seven times. The latter years of the twentieth-century saw professionals from American, Sweden, Finland, and Canada banned from participating in the Olympics; in 1960 the United States won the gold medal, but Russia won all but two gold medals from the years 1956 to 1988. A bunch of non-pro college kids in Lake Placid, New York beat the Russians in 1980 for the gold medal.

Most Americans weren't paying much attention to the sport at the time, but this began to change. The 1972 and 1974 Summit series had solidified Canada and Russia as hockey rivals. As a result, the Canadian Cup - where the best of the very best nations were able to play the sport - was formed. The name of the Canadian Cup was altered to the World Cup of Hockey and following that decision the United States won the match in 1996; Canada won in 2004.

The Canadian cup later became the World Cup of Hockey with the United States winning in 1996 and Canada winning in 2004. Ever since 1998, NHL professionals have been allowed in the Olympics, which gives top players better opportunity to compete and face other pros from different countries. Also in 1998, the women's game premiered in the Olympics; there have been nine women's competitions since.

Because women play just as hard a game as men, they are definitely being seen more and more as a serious sport all their own. Still, they have a long way to go in terms of being on equal footing with men at the domestic and international levels. Long ruled by men, hockey is a sport where women will have to work particularly hard to get serious attention.

The game is still enjoyed by millions of people in Canada and the United States and still to this day still breaking attendance records by the throngs of loyal fans who still love this sport. The love of this sport reaches the "pastime" level of game attendance, prompting the kind of devotion that many Americans put towards football, basketball, and baseball.

Whether the players are pros or whether they are newbies, hockey is its own little world with its own set of rules. Soap opera fans have nothing on fans of this sport; people worship it like the air they breathe. Some people will spend hours playing the game well into the late hours; often rinks will stay open to accommodate those buffs who want to spend 2-3 hours thrashing around a cold rink slapping a hard rubber circle around. - 22873

Search123 and 7Search are other pay per click search engines that enjoy a good reputation. They have been designed to serve the interests of small advertisers who can't afford the high costs practiced by other programs. From the same financial perspective, Search123 is advantageous as well since for an initial $50 deposit when you sign up you receive an extra advertising budget of $20.

However, such practices of encouraging advertisers make a common strategy being used by other pay per click search engines too, and ABCSearch is a relevant example for the matter. Soccer Players: Don't Run So Much

By Jerry De Becker

I've often heard soccer players talking about how we have to run 7 miles per game. Some players even run marathons to cross train.

I'm here to tell you that training long distance running is bad for soccer fitness. Here's why and what to do instead:

In a 90 minute game, an average soccer player will:

* Stand: 3-4 minutes

* Walk: 40 minutes

* Jog: 35 minutes

* Sprint: 7-16 minutes depending on the position

Wherever those stats came from originally, I've seen them a few times over the years.

Long distance running only helps with jogging. Not only would you be hurting when it came to sprinting, but that kind of training reduces your sprinting ability.

There's an article by Arthur De Vany on how bad marathons are for you. Among the reasons are various chronic heart, liver, kidney, brain and muscle damage. Not sure why anyone would want that. That's not the way to improve your game.

What should you do instead? Interval training. That's high intensity bursts followed by rest. Try running hills, fartleks or even circuit training routines if it's too bad to get outside. Or just do sprints. The rest of your jogging endurance will be filled out fine in the running you do in practice.

Another indication should be the comparison you can make between elite sprinters and marathon runners. Which of those two groups look more like professional soccer players? That's right, the sprinters. Being able to run for a long time doesn't do you any good in soccer if you're always the last one to get to the ball.

What if you like running distances? Should you stop running distances altogether? No. I just wouldn't make it a practice of running more than 3 miles at a time. Even then, you'd get more out of running more sprints, doing polymetrics, kettlebell work or lifting heavy weights. - 22873

Coaching youth sports requires a pretty delicate touch considering the subject matter. On the one hand, you want the game to be a lot of fun. Whether you're coaching youth soccer, basketball, football, or some other sport, you want the kids to look forward to coming in every day and to really giving it their best. On the other hand, many kids are competitive, and many parents are even more so. Youth sports coaches have to deal with the constant pressure to bring in victories while at the same time trying not to pressure the kids too much.

I've been coaching youth soccer for almost a decade in a pretty competitive youth club. I know all about the balances you have to strike, and it hasn't always been easy for me. When I first started off coaching youth soccer, they made it very clear to me that I was expected to bring in wins. I stayed with the program at first, giving them aggressive youth soccer drills, pushing them to the limits, and shouting at them when they didn't succeed. Soon I realized that this was making the game less fun for them and for me. I came up with better, more subtle techniques to coach youth soccer and gradually learned how to get the best from kids without being a bully.

One of the things that many coaches don't realize is that kids will often do their best work for people who are nice to them. Today's kids get bossed around in school, hassled by the police, and generally marginalized by society in a very routine way, and this can make them unhappy and resentful. If you can show them that you respect them and their abilities, they will be happy to give their all for you. As a matter of fact, since I started to become one of those nice guy coaches, I've had a much better record. We've come in in the top five in our league for the past couple years, and actually had our first victory of the season.

Of course there are youth soccer coaches who disagree with me. I suppose that coaching youth soccer is just like anything else " you're bound to run into different personality types at different times. What someone does best with a smile and a pat on the back, someone else the best by ripping out his hair and shouting at the players. I like to think my approach is superior, however, because it leaves the kids feeling good about themselves. If you can build up their self-esteem while improving their sports skills, You have really done a good job as a coach and a mentor.

Custom Emoticons MSN

By Lian Maksin

More at: Toddler Wooden Bed. What are MSN emoticons or smileys? An emoticon, or smiley, is actually a sequence of ordinary characters existing on each computer keyboard. They are popular for different computer communication forms, such as: email and instant messages. Among the most popular, smiling symbols represent the first MSN emoticons introduced, that are common to other web services. The smiling faces represent a substitute for the direct casual encouraging smile, but depending on the context other meanings can be conveyed.

Yahoo, Google and MSN offer lists with emoticons to be used in conversations or in emails, and all the symbols turn into real icons once they are selected and integrated in the message. These emoticons graphically express an emotion through an icon.

And here we have an explanation for the name emoticon. Whether MSN emoticons or symbols belonging to another provider, they truly make online communication more pleasant. The idea of using these symbols is to emphasize the writer's feelings, emotions and, also, to do it in a funny way.

There is no apparent difference in meaning between emoticons and smileys Europeans usually call them emoticons, while Americans tend to refer to them as smileys. Anyway, messenger users often call them MSN emoticons, MSN smileys or Yahoo smileys. There are huge numbers of sites that give away free smileys, of which Smiley Central smileys are the most popular.

MSN messenger gives its users some free emoticons but it also allows you to use your own custom MSN emoticons. Many of these, which are really great, have been designed for messenger by fans.

The basic MSN emoticons function allows an Internet surfer to use animated emoticons up to 50x50 pixels in size. At My Emoticons, for instance, these icons are divided into romance, girlie, bad boys, moody and other categories. They have even come up with adult emoticons and sex smilies, which, though not for everybody, are still terribly funny.

Each MSN emoticon has a tag, which automatically generates a particular item. The simplest example is a smiley face, which consists of a colon and a right-hand bracket. Using the opposite bracket will give you a sad face. Many other emoticons come with similar tags, and a constant Internet user can learn them quickly. For the more difficult to remember, use the drop down menu included in the chat window. Like this, MSN emoticons will be just a click away. - 22873

What you should Know About Archery and the Olympic Games

By Frank De Sousa

It is rather funny that archery as a sports event, was absent from the first Olympics in Greece. Chances are that it was an Olympic sport sometime in them past, since the games have been continuing for the last 1000 years. Years when archery started to get included as a sport event in the Olympics were 1900 for men and 1904 for women.

During the early years of Olympics, there was no regularity in the game rules and archery was not included as an event any more after 1920. It took many years before all countries accepted the international rules for competition, but archery was able to return as an Olympic sport to the 1972 Munich Games. In 1988, team competitions were held in addition to the individual events.

Since 1992, the structure of the game is head-to-head competition amongst 64 top players. Individual for men, individual for women, team for men and team for women are the four events in archery. In the individual events for men and women, players throw 72 arrows at the bull's eye target standing at a distance of 70 meters which is 229 feel and 8 inches. 40 seconds is the time allowed between two shots and the aim is to reach a score of 720 and a 'sudden death' overtime shot is played in case of a tie.

Team competitions consist of 16 3-archer teams and as in the individual events, each archer shoots 72 arrows which are shot from a distance of 70 meters. In a tie score, each team member will shoot one arrow and the arrow closest to the center of the target determines the winner. The target is made up of ten concentric rings and you can score 1 point if your arrow hits the outermost ring with the score going up by 1 point as you get closer to the center, which if hit, you score 10 points.

Olympic archery events involve using a recurve bow which enables the arrow to traverse at the speed of 150 mph. These extraordinary bows are made from wood, fiberglass and graphite which helps in the arrow to travel in a straight line and this stabilizing effect helps for a perfect aim. The equipment is costly and can go beyond 00 the reason being strings made from hydrocarbon or from Kelvar and the arrows from aluminum or carbon graphite.

Olympic archers usually would undergo training for ten years. One should be in impeccable form to participate. You need the right coach and the ideal equipment too. As luck would have it, archery is less costly than any other sports. The game must be learnt thoroughly and you have to spend a lot of time reading about it and discuss with other archers before you start to partake in various local and national tournaments but remember practice is critical and the more you do it the more proficient you would become.

This sport is open to even athletes suffering from some disabilities. A New Zealand woman, Neroli Fairhall, was the first paraplegic to compete in the Olympic Games and was a gold medalist in the Commonwealth Games. Being a family-oriented activity, this sport can be enjoyed for a lifetime. - 22873

Advantages of Garmin Forerunner GPS Units

By Christopher Loch

Having a GPS unit available when running or participating in a number of other outdoor sports can be useful, but traditional GPS units tend to be a bit too bulky in order to be effective in these situations.

The Garmin Forerunner has the solution to this problem, however; a wrist-mounted GPS unit with a number of added features to help you to get the most out of your training and outdoor sporting activities.

Though it is designed as a training tool, don't let this cause you to think that your Garmin Forerunner isn't going to be able to provide you with accurate location data. With an extended antenna concealed in the wrist strap, the Forerunner is able to get a GPS signal in places where other wrist-mounted devices might fail and will provide the accuracy that you would expect from a Garmin product. In addition to being able to give you current location data, the Garmin Forerunner can also help you to plot a course, specify specific destinations, and even find your way back to your starting point at a moment's notice.

Depending on the model of Forerunner that you get you'll find that the units are packed with additional features. You can use your Garmin Forerunner to display data on your speed, the distance that you've travelled, and even the pace at which you've been travelling. Some models of the Forerunner are even able to give you a readout of your heart rate so that you'll have information on exactly how hard you're working when on your run, cycling, or even windsurfing.

Best of all, the data that's collected by your Garmin Forerunner can be downloaded onto your PC for use with the training software supplied with the unit or uploaded to websites such as MotionBased.com so that you can save preferred routes and see exactly how well you've been doing while training. This will help you to not only determine those portions of your training workouts that could use some work, but will also give you an idea of which portions of your training you are gaining the most benefit from so that you can try to expand that benefit even further. As weeks go by you can even compare different results to monitor your progress and get the most out of future workouts. - 22873

Snowboarding Clothes: Be Prepared

By Lucille Green

If you have a hankering to go out snowboarding, it entails being outside in tough winter conditions, and since you're here to have fun, you need to be appropriately prepared and highly comfortable with your clothes. A snowboarding excursion requires warm, comfortable snowboarding attire so besides the regular clothing, here are the core factors that ought to be part of your everyday apparel.

Keep in mind that snowboarding clothes require protection and characteristics like windproof, waterproofing or shock resistant ought to be written on the label, so make sure to read the label prior you actually purchase any cheap item which appears to be a winter jacket. Outdoor pants, bibs and boarding jackets are among the most imperative snowboarding clothes we need to have a look at so let's proceed!

Let's see the outer snowboarding attire you need. Critical for leg comfort are any kind of outdoor pants though unlike normal leg wear, these are made of a certain cloth that renders them suitable for any rough winter situations you could encounter. These snowboarding clothes are a bit abnormal by the structure of the material as well as pattern design. You should only buy the ones that have specific knee joint protections that will protect you from falls, without limit your movement. If you choose them on the web, it is good to go for popular names in the winter sports field, such as Big Foot or The North Face that have quality goods.

Together in the identical snowboarding clothes category are the snowboarding bibs that are normally employed for powder riding and offer an improved type of these outside pants. Obviously, with this clothing item you'll be both comfy as well as damp free. Made of three layers of Gore-Tex, the bibs ensure seat banishes through the outside layer of the fabric, and at the same time no moisture can find it's way in from outside.

From the snowboarding clothes you could get, these in particular really need to be top of the line. Whether or not you have a winter coat, chest-high bibs are the greatest protection against bad weather conditions. Incline zippers are near the waist area and won't conflict with any back harness you may carry.

Last but not least, one other essential outdoor part of the snowboarding apparel is the jacket. Snowboarding apparel come in such a wide range of types and trends that sometimes it is difficult to make a decision. If I went out and bought a coat, I'd likely pick a two or perhaps even a three layered one, complete with fleece on the interior and Gore-Tex on the exterior.

The fleece overall has the best advantage of retaining body warmth, and at the same time eliminating excessive moisture, whereas Gore-Tex lets the body breathe without letting any water in. Furthermore, it is a good idea to take a coat that has a hood or even a face mask attached to it. You can just put the goggles on and you're protected from breathing in freshly fallen snow. - 22873

Hazardous Sports and Life Insurance: Stuff You Might Not Have Grasped

By Chimezirim Odimba

Prior to granting policies, insurance companies compute risk. Can people that gamble with life daily purchase life insurance too? Statistically, insurance companies should not even consider offering a policy to these people. The primary concern isn't price but rather finding a company that is willing to take on such a gamble.

Life insurance is prearranged for people that are 100% certain to expire sooner or later. Various insurance policies are not similar to this.

Think about it, you may never get in a car accident. Medical insurance covers sickness that may never occur. Your home may never be broken into or damaged in a fire. Nevertheless, each person will pass on one day.

The chances are about half of other insurance holders filing a claim. The lesser amount of risk brings about lower payments. What life insurance companies do is calculate how much time they can get you to pay premiums before you die.

"Hazardous avocations" is what insurers call extreme sports. At this point, the insurer's options would be limited. Insurance companies could blow up premiums to cover for the risk or deny coverage.

This is because of the risk involved with the sport. This would be like offering life insurance to someone that has terminal cancer. There are some high risk insurance companies that are available.

If jumping out of aircrafts or scaling the highest mountain is your thing, make sure you divulge this on your application. It never pays off to be deceitful on an insurance application. The result is usually cancellation of your policy.

If you adjust or add activities, notify the carrier for any existing policies. This might result in your policy being terminated but you still have alternatives. There will be other providers that will offer you coverage.

The original quote may not be the best priced so look around. Check around for the best bargain. Your payment will be considered in a different way and may be pricey. It should take some pressure off being certain that you are insurable.

Begin your search online and start gathering names and numbers. Email some companies to get more information. Know what you are buying, especially considering the cost. The BBB can help you check the reputation of these agencies. - 22873

By Pat J Walker

Deciding to get a bike is the easy part. Figuring out which bike to get can get complicated. But it doesn't have to be stressful. If you remember to these tips, researching the right bike for you will be fun and easy. Remember these guidelines and you'll end up getting a great bike for you.

1.Know what you need. Figuring out what you want and need shouldn't take too long. What kind of cyclist are you? Casual? Fitness? Commuter? Distance? All of these factors should be taken into consideration before purchasing. The differences between bicycles are endless, so spend your time designing your specific bike needs. After you have your bike in mind, start the hunt.

2.Mind the dip. I've seen so many casual cyclists make the mistake of buying an expensive mountain bike just to cruise around the look park paths. The most expensive bike out there is the one you buy that is completely wrong for you. Make sure you consider your environment. Are you travelling in an urban area or on an unpaved hiking trail? Either way, there is a bike out there specifically designed for your needs.

3.Got skills? The sheer desire to get out there and ride can be a powerful urge. However, it is best not to let the desire take over and put you in a position of buying too much bike. If you can ride a bike, but are not used to all the gears, shifting options and gizmos that come with a performance bike, you may be discouraged and lose your enthusiasm. Being a casual cyclist is not a bad thing. You don't have to be Lance Armstrong to enjoy a good ride. Take a genuine assessment of your skill level before making your decision.

4.Review, Research, Repeat. I'm not suggesting that you write a book report on the history of the bicycle and its socioeconomic influence on the human race. It is a good idea to have knowledge about the bikes that suit your needs. You may be surprised by the amount of options available. In addition, some bike retailers may be more reliable than others. Reading the reviews of other people and researching your bike are great independent tools to help you on your way.

5.Ask a lot of questions. Is this bicycle within your budget? How much maintenance is required for this bike? Can I find this bike used and save a lot of money? Are there any adjustments or modifications on the horizon for this bicycle? Should I wait until I see the newest innovations? What kind of accessories will I need for this bike?

6.Know Thyself. Safety should be your most important factor when choosing a bicycle. All too often, well meaning beginners will embellish important factors like fitness ability, height and weight. Be sure to be honest with yourself; your safety will depend on it.

7.Bum a Ride. Check out the rides of your friends and family. Especially if you are going to use your bike for the same purposes as they are. Nothing is better than a referral from a friend or a good test drive. Even if you don't want the same bike, actually going for a ride will give you an idea of what you want from a bike.

8.Visit a bike shop. There is a lot to be said for testing out a product before purchasing it. Although you may be able to save a lot of money by purchasing online, the last stage of research might be best served in a bike shop. Most bike shops will have knowledgeable personnel available to let you feel out a bike before purchase. In addition, if you do purchase your bike online, being aware of bike shop policies on maintenance is a great way to establish a relationship should you ever need any repairs.

9.Ask to borrow a bike from friends and family. If the thought of visiting a bike shop is still inconvenient or intimidating, speak to people in your world and go for a ride. You'd be amazed what a ride will do for you when trying to make a decision. In addition, he or she can offer their personal experiences with the bike.

10.Trust Yourself. While all of this research and question asking is bound to help, at some point you may feel overwhelmed. At this point you need to trust you gut and go with your instincts. Ultimately you need to make the call and will be the one riding your bike. Don't buy a bike that will impress others, impress yourself. Get what you want and you will love your purchase.

Buying a bicycle does not have to be a stressful experience. In fact, one should be excited to get out there and ride. Taking a cruise on a new bike on a beautiful spring day can do wonders for your physical and emotional fitness. Take these tips and find your ride. - 22873

Three reasons why you should wear a wetsuit

By Clement C.

Water is not mens natural environment and since we can not breathe underwater a jump into the sea is always also a bit of a jump into the unknown. Of course fear is not the reason to wear a wetsuit, there are many much better reasons, but a wetsuit will also give you some comfort.

The three most important things that a wetsuit does for you are the following - they keep you warm in the cold water, the give you extra protection against rocks, your equipment etc.. and they improve your buoyancy.

1) Protection against cold water. Cold water can cause hypothermia and at the end even death. Because water is 25 times more heat-conducting than air you can become hypothermic even in summer and at times when you actually don't think that the water is so cold. But if you stay in to long your body temperature will drop. So many times it is wise to wear a wetsuit even in the summer and in warm water, if you stay in for a long time.

How does the wetsuit keep you warm? A thin layer of water comes between your body and the wetsuit. Body heats it and the wetsuit prevents the heat from escaping further, hence you have an insulation layer. Because neoprene contains many bubbles the air in them also acts as great insulation. This of course only works if fresh cold water doesn't constantly flush your wetsuit. So your wetsuits should be tight fitting, snug.

2) Protection. Wearing a wetsuit protects your body. Although not indestructible, the neoprene material is able to dampen any blows your body might receive. And between pieces of coral tearing your suit open, instead of your skin, it is perhaps wise to wear a wetsuit.

3) Buoyancy. Aside from that, wetsuits can protect poor swimmers. Due to the buoyant nature of neoprene, it will help you float better. It is not a life-vest, but it'll help.

Especially when it comes to protection against cold the wetsuits played an important role in the popularity of water sports today. Without them these sports would only be limited to a few lucky warm places and would never grow so popular. - 22873

Buying a Bike

By Pat J Walker

For some of us, buying a bicycle can be as intimidating as going into a gourmet Italian coffee shop. The choices are endless and the language is nothing short of foreign. In an attempt to ease the decision making process and ensure that you end up with the right bicycle, I've compiled a list of tips to help you on your journey.

1.Assess your needs. One of the best ways to waste your time and money is to purchase something that isn't right for you. There are so many options to choose from that it actually helps to be particular. Think about the ways that you plan to use your bike, how often will you be using it and how much maintenance it may need. What you are looking for may be totally different from what you need.

2.Start Slow. If you're just getting started don't go out and spend $2000 on a mountain bike. Get a reasonably priced bike ($200-$400) that is going to last and perform well. As you get more and more into biking you can add and upgrade components or trade up the entire bike.

4.Do your homework. Assuage all thoughts of intimidation and fear through research. The best negotiating tactic is knowledge. It will ensure you know enough about your bicycle of choice to get a good price and give you the self confidence to ask for what you want. The internet has really been instrumental in educating consumers on future purchases and has subsequently changed the retail landscape.

5.Ask Lots of Questions. There are lots of places to ask questions. You can hit the blogs and forums but I would also recommend going into a brick and mortar bike shop. It can be intimidating but its always nice to actually get a feel for a bike and its parts. No matter where you go for info don't be afraid to ask questions, it's the only way to find out more.

6.Be True to Yourself. Be honest with yourself about your fitness level and abilities. You should know your height and weight and just how hard you will be able to push your bike. Don't get more bike than you need because it often leads to disinterest. Too much bike becomes too complicated for beginners.

7.Don't take my word for it. Though your interest in cycling may be new to you, there are many addicts out there. Beginners, cruiser, mountain bikers and "live to bike" types; your research should not be limited to retail experts. Ask those folks who are into it or getting into it, just like you. Their input is independent and free!

9.Birds of a Feather flock together. If going to a bike shop is too inconvenient or bike sales people are too overzealous for you, borrow a bike from friend. More than likely, your friends share similar interests and fitness level. Even if you a friends with a bike enthusiast, he or she will still be able to offer some advice on brands and characteristics to suit your needs.

10.Buy what you like. The best way to ensure a good bike purchasing experience is to like what you buy. While research is important, don't go into paralysis through analysis. If you've found something that works for you, don't over think it.

Buying a bicycle does not have to be a stressful experience. In fact, one should be excited to get out there and ride. Taking a cruise on a new bike on a beautiful spring day can do wonders for your physical and emotional fitness. Take these tips and find your ride. - 22873

Just make sure your arms are slightly bent and your leg is positioned on a 70 to 90 percent with your seat adjusted accordingly. Relax your body while biking so as your shoulders and knees and elbows are not locked.

Practice shifting the gears

Get a feel for shifting gears with your bike. The higher gears are harder to pedal and will go faster while the lower gears are easier to pedal and will help you ascend hills. As you get to steeper hills, its best to shift before you get to the hill rather than while your on it.

Coasting

Learn how to coast some time on your bike while you are standing on it and not sitting on your seat. Position your arms bended properly and do not allow your legs to be locked. While you are doing this, try making a simple shift as if you are experimenting your moves.
