Should You Buy Your Own Scuba Regulator for Traveling?

By Ed J Price

A malfunction or failure of any of your equipment can ruin a dive which can even cause death. With diving equipments, one of the most important piece of enjoying a diving with comfort and safely is a scuba regulator.

You will be glad you brought your own diving regulator with the heavy tank or even bulky buoyancy control device hired wherever you planning to go on a diving vacation. It is reassuring to have equipment that you know and trust. You can enjoy the dive and not waste your time worrying about equipment you are not familiar with. Do not trust your life too heavily on used rental equipment when you can easily bring your own regulator and other light equipment.

Scuba Regulator and the Basics

Diving regulators consist of two stages and connecting hoses. The first stage connects to your diving tank and reduces the very high tank pressure to an intermediate level. The second stage is connected to the first via a hose that is long enough to reach from the tank on your back around to your mouth, but not so long that it will get tangled. The second stage further reduces the pressure of the air to a level that is comfortable to breath. It contains the mouthpiece and the valve that controls the flow of air so that it only comes out on demand.

A complete scuba regulator will also have an auxiliary second stage for use in case of emergency. It is attached with a slightly longer hose that reaches around and attaches to your chest where it can be conveniently reached by you or your dive buddy should either of your primary regulators fail.

To inflate it at the push of a button, the regulator will have an additional air hose with a coupling that is attached to your buoyancy control device (BCD).

Picking the Right Scuba Regulator

First you need to decide what features are important to you. Regulators come in two types, piston or diaphragm. If you are planning on doing cold water diving, go with the diaphragm type because it can be freeze proofed.

You need to look at options, once you have chosen the type because some regulators will have an adjustment on the second stage. This allows you to increase or decrease the effort to open the valve when you breathe in and controls how much effort inhaling through the regulator. As a matter of personal preference, go for the adjustable ones, if not, non adjustable models are locked into an average setting which may feel right to you.

On some scuba regulators are couplings in the line that allows the mouthpiece to swivel. Usually the sign of a good unit, it has features that will keep your hose from getting tangled. - 22873

Northern California Travel Getaways

By Christopher Pyle

Summer is nearer and for many of us, this means some time off: time off from packing lunches for the kids, time off of work, time off of carpool or simply some time off from the daily grind that is our routine.

Perhaps you're not headed to Europe or off to the Caribbean but you'd still like to get a way for a while, then why not look right here in California? Tens of thousands of tourists do each year, there must be something to see, let's have a look around.

It seems we often take for granted what we see on a regular basis, be it loved ones or our own beautiful State.

Think about it, many people flock to Northern California for their vacation! Here we have a gorgeous mountain range, The Sierra Nevada, we have some of the best wine country in the entire world, we have coastal hideaways and tourist oriented cities, the great redwood forest, world-class resorts and restaurants.

Here are some adventures you can have in the Sierra Nevada Foothills.

We'll start with the area responsible for the Gold Rush, The Coloma / Lotus American River Valley.

Hosting some great vacation spots in all the State is El Dorado County. Only two hours from San Francisco, located between US Hwys 80 and 50, access to both North and South Shores of Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County is a great choice for an affordable and diverse vacation. Being only a day's drive from anywhere in the State makes this super area to explore and vacation.

The History:

As noted on the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park website -James W. Marshall discovered gold in 1848 on the South Fork of the American River in the valley the Nisenan Indians knew as Cullumah. This event led to the greatest mass movement of people in the Western Hemisphere and was the spark that ignited the spectacular growth of the West during the ensuing decades. The gold discovery site, located in the still visible tailrace of Sutter's sawmill, in present day Coloma California, is one of the most significant historic sites in the nation.

Unfortunately we often look right past that which is in front of us, not fully appreciating the bounty within our daily reach. The epic Gold Rush took place right here. We are all made to study this time in US history and it's right here. And so, the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park is as good a place as any to begin your exploration. The grounds are filled with artifacts from the Gold Rush era, including a replica of the mill, buildings that have stood the test of time, a museum, a nature trail, a blacksmith shop etc.

Before you make your way to Coloma and the Gold Rush site, you have a decisions to make. Are you making a day of this? Is it just you and the family coming into town for a little history and picnic on the banks of the South Fork of the American River or are you planning a big family get together, reunion style, and youre planning to employ some of the built in barbeques they have available for your use. Is the family going to stay a day or multiple days?

For bring-your-tent style sleeping and or RV, there are campgrounds and an RV park in the area. Ponderosa Park in Coloma is the RV park but it's a very specific park and you must have membership in the national club, call ahead. Camp Lotus on Bassi Road is a beautiful campground as well there is American River Resort on River Road. An historic hotel may suit your needs better or a bed and breakfast: The Albert Shafsky House in Placerville is a Bed and Breakfast, The Sierra Nevada House is right in Coloma and is an old hotel. Once you're here you have plenty of one and two day excursions to choose from, for example, rafting and or wine tasting?

The Viticulture Society has recognized the lands in South East El Dorado County as some of the best areas for wine production. If you're into wines you must take a wine tour, stop into my favorites Oakstone (just about anything they produce if phenomenal) and Windwalker (specifically the Barbera and Sangiovese!)

Maybe you want more than wine tasting, maybe you want wine tasting AND something else there is so much to do but one of the greatest, most fulfilling options you can chose is whitewater rafting.

You'll definitely have your choice when it comes to a rafting outfitter, there are some 33-companies on the river. The best way to chose which is right for you is to go with the one you feel most comfortable with when you book. There are differences between the companies but the environment is so competitive they all have to mind themselves pretty well.

You really shouldn't pass up the opportunity to raft. The majesty of the river canyon is cathartic in so many ways. Since there are so many things to do in the area, if you do come on a large family outing, there are plenty of things to do for those that absolutely won't raft.

Ever wonder what the oldest hardware store in the west looks like? Or perhaps you're into newspapers and you've long pondered where the home of the oldest western newspaper is. Well, wonder no more, visit historic Hangtown, now known as Placerville. The main street is lined with shops, eateries and real life local businesses.

Stretch yourself a bit more by driving up to South Lake Tahoe and visit the beautiful lake, play a few games, hike through Desolation Wilderness.

Perhaps wed all love to cruise the Mediterranean for a few weeks but its simply not in our cards right now. You can head to the foothills of Northern California from anywhere in the State and be there within a days drive. Once here, with some simple planning, you can have as fulfilling and diverse holiday as nearly anywhere in the world. Tens of thousands of people a year come to visit, shouldnt you? Happy holidays! - 22873

Ocean Front Bike Paths of California

By PJ Williams

The California Coast offers the most beautiful scenery in the country. If you haven't made it there yet, I highly recommend you take the time to get there. And if you get there I also highly recommend that you bring your bike. Seeing the coast in your car feels claustrophobic after you see it with your bike.

The central coast is as good a place in the world as any other. The Old Coast Road that runs from Big Sur to Carmel has become a virtual bikers paradise ever since the Bixby Bridge has been built. Cars now take the bridge so bike riders have the road all to themselves. Not only is it beautiful but it feels like another world. A world a bike rider will love.

Fort Ord was made legendary by the old Vietnam era photo of a young soldier, waiting for deployment, standing on its beaches. That area was a hub of military activity during the 60s and 70s and lots of ex-military personnel return to the area year after year because of the beauty they witnessed then. The Fort Oro/Toro Creek Trail will reveal this beauty to you in a way that might keep you coming back year after year.

There is another ride that will surely not disappoint that ends in Gaviota State Park. The trail will have you riding through inland valleys and over rolling hills. There is no shortage of picturesque farmland and rich vegetation. The route has two large hills, offering both challenge and triumph. The tradewinds can be especially brutal, so be sure to bring sunglasses or goggles to keep you moving. This ride can be a challenge, but will bring you beach front, so be sure to cool off with a dip in the Pacific.

The San Elijo State Beach has two distinctive reasons to bring your bike. The first is the area around Huntington Beach. Los Angeles is almost as famous for its' smog as it is for its' Hollywood stars. Take a trip south and you'll find some of the prettiest areas in the world. The landscape is not especially challenging for cyclist, but the ride is breathtaking. The most popular area is the coastal stretch just south of Newport Beach. This is definitely worth the ride.

The second area is the Pacific Coast Bike route. The stretch from San Elijo to Torrey Pines is smooth, but the rest of the ride can be more physically challenging. San Diego is one of my most favorite cities in the country. It has all the culture and vibe of a large city, but is decidedly welcoming and not pretentious. The scenery will keep you interested, but the city will keep you coming back.

If you have the opportunity to bike the coastal regions of California, consider yourself blessed. The coastline seemed to be carved from biking divinity. Though there are too many areas to name in one short article, consider just stopping and picking a trailhead at random. I'm sure there are far more treasures to be discovered. - 22873

A fight in a Small town bar!

By LJ James

It was a quite day in a small Bar in upstate New York . The girl working behind the bar was young, she had just turned 18 and had only been bar tending a few weeks, this was her first time working alone. Everything was going fine with only two of the regulars in the back shooting pool it was nothing she could not handle she thought to herself.

Then the front door opened and in walked ten of the biggest men she had ever seen. They talked loudly and as they walked over to the far side of the bar, She got a look at the back of their jackets. She could easily see that the markings on them where all the same. The men ordered pitchers of beer and their talking only got louder as they drank more and talked about things she did not understand. Then the men went quite as the front door opened and in walked seven more large men, at first she thought these seven men where with the first Ten as they looked and dressed similar but as she looked at the markings on the backs of these new comers Jackets she could tell while they where similar the markings where different, By the way the two groups where looking at each other she guessed the difference must mean a lot to them.

The Seven men sat up toward the front of the bar and also ordered pitchers of beer. The young girl did her best to make sure both groups where kept happy, but it was just a matter of time and Beer! When one of the men from the first group called out to her, "Hey Honey don't worry about those guys, there losers! Come over here and hang with some real men." That was all it took, the fuse was lit. "Who you calling losers pal we are good enough to beat you any day of the week!" Yelled back a guy from the second group. "You may think your as good as us but you never will be!" Yelled back a man from the first group.

Then in what was a blur to our young barmaid a fight broke out between the two groups it was loud and she could hear glass and wood breaking all around her as the men cursed and screamed at each other. This young Girl was scared and she feared for her life.

Her fear abated a little when in the distance she heard sirens. The police are coming, she thought to herself as she hid behind the bar. The police arrived in force and they stormed in arresting the men and taking them away. When things got quite and all the men where taken away the young girl looked around the small bar. So much damage she thought to herself, She looked at one of the officers and asked how did you know to come here. We got a call that these two groups where both heading to this bar and we just knew, it happens all the time with these type of guys!!!

Epilogue: The next morning when the young barmaid awoke she walked down stairs to the kitchen where her father was reading the morning paper. Does it say anything about the fight in the bar yesterday she asked her father? Yes he said as he pointed to a small article in the back of the paper "Yankees and Mets fans Brawl it out in small town bar" the story went on to explain how all the men where given tickets for disorderly conduct and released. That's it she screamed at her father these men trash the bar, scare the hell out of me, They should all be in jail and all they get is Tickets!!! Calm down sweetheart her father said as he hugged her, The way your acting one would think it had been a bunch of rowdy Bikers in the bar yesterday! Those Guys would have been locked away, But it was only Sports fans!

The Qualities of Comfortable Running Shoes

By Tony Gallo

Casual shoes mean that you are supposed to feel good when wearing them. Not that business shoes shouldn't be comfortable, but it happens so many times that they are simply too rigid to male a perfect fit.

However, there are persons, women especially, who see shoes as an accessory to flirting and attracting the looks of the opposite sex. This is why they choose to wear high heels . Although detrimental to comfort, high heels are very appreciated by ladies of all ages. It seems men appreciate them too, without even being aware of it.

When it comes to sport and performance, then we can kiss the high heels good bye, because such shoes are not made for walking, running or jumping around. We need the sport shoes to support our feet, to cushion for absorbing the chocks when we hit the ground with our heels.

Manufacturers of sport shoes invest a lot in research and development, because they need to supply the performance sportsmen with professional, high quality products.

Each type of sport demands a special type of shoe. Among the sports you can do barefoot, there are swimming, martial arts and chess. For the rest, you need to wear some shoes, if you want to compete. Can you imagine playing football without shoes?

The shoe material doesn't have to be natural leather. There are modern materials which allow air to flow much better, preventing the overheating of your feet, therefore reducing the level of smell.

Walking shoes should have soft soles and a little bit of heel. You don't want them to be perfectly flat, because you'll get tired when walking long distances.

If you feel some discomfort in the store, when you try the shoes, don't buy them. It is wrong to believe that they will get loose in time and that they will fit you better. This is a costly mistake. Don't fall for it. - 22873

Spy Goggles - Multiple Reasons To Buy

By Carrie Westengate

Spy Optics are a company that was developed because a group of sportsmen in San Diego were committed to technologically advancing the effectiveness and quality of sunglasses and goggles for use in extreme sports. Such advancements include ARC Prismatic Polycarbonate and Delta Photochromic lenses. Frames on their sunglasses and goggles also benefit from the Proprietary Scoop venting system as well as their other design and technology patents.

The Spy Soldier range comes in a wide variety of different coloured and hard wearing frames with high definition lenses, so the available choice is certainly a good one. Realistically speaking, I doubt the range would be as large unless the product was good.

Of course the primary purpose of sports goggles is safety for the eyes from snow, dust and debris in addition to protecting them from the suns harmful UV rays. For comfort and protection, Spy Soldier goggles has three layer Isortion face foam and pivoting strap hinges with adjustable silicone-ribbed straps to keep your Spy goggles securely in place whatever your sport.

Along with other ranges of Spy goggles, the Spy Soldier range give 100% UV protection against A, B and C rays which is of course important, however, you should also remember that the colour or darkness of the lens is not related to the level of protection, it is the clear outer coating that filters the rays and not the colour.

Spy also provide Scoop ventilation to help avoid misting and fogging which as you may know can be a big problem, particularly when you are only just learning to ski or snowboard. The 6-base ARC spherical dual lens also has anti-fog protection, plus being scratch resistant.

There are quite a lot of people who believe that it is unnecessary to buy designer goggles, and they are of course correct. However, as far as is known, all the designer ranges do have the necessary high quality required to protect your eyes. It is worth noting that designers do need to protect their label and are unlikely to put anything on the market that would make their name vulnerable.

Spy Soldier goggles are certainly not cheap, usually coming in around 100, but if you have heard the old adage, "you get what you pay for", that saying has become popular for a reason - it's true! Dont be fooled into thinking that all goggles are the same, they are not, and so make sure you get a good pair. They are your eyes, so protect them! - 22873

By Dr. Lorna Mistranski

A science study set up by researchers identifies mechanisms of acai fruit berry provide chemo preventive potential that may possibly help out in the potential removal of cancer.

Researchers acknowledged that anthocyanins which are a collection of flavonoids originating in acai berry fruit, prohibited development and encouraged apoptosis in the throats of rats treated with an esophageal carcinogen. The finding provides robust verification that anthocyanins are fundamental for cancer prevention.

The researchers fed rats an anthocyanin-rich extract of acai fruit and documented that the compound was right away efficient in relation to as successful in hindering esophageal cancer in rats and as a sum total acai fruit berry contained the same absorption of anthocyanins.

This lesson demonstrates the degree of anthocyanins as protective agents in acai fruit and validated equal answers. This study was amid the foremost to peek at the affiliation connecting anthocyanins and cancer deterrence.

The researchers conducted investigational trials by way of entire acai fruit berry powder, which has netted some promising results however required patients to obtain up to 60 grams of powder a day.

At the present, it is understood anthocyanins in acai fruit berries are approximately as dynamic as thw complete acai fruit berry themselves; it is the hope of the researchers to be capable to put a stop to cancer in humans using a uniform creation of anthocyanin.

The aim is to potentially substitute whole acai berry fruit powder by means of its dynamic workings and subsequently construct out enhanced ways to distribute these components to tissues, to augment their uptake and efficiency.

In the end, it is the hopes and expectations of the researchers to test the anthocyanins for helpfulness in several organ sites in humans.

Acai fruit is about the dimension of a hefty blueberry however only the furthest layers of the fruit, the pulp adjoining a large internal seed, are fit to be eaten. Similar to vitamin C, the body can only soak up so much at a occasion. - 22873

Treadmill walking for losing weight

By Manuelle Fergus

Thinking about getting in shape or losing weight? Then walk on treadmills.. A lot of people have done so to just to be fit or for weight loss purposes; some just to keep a general overall good health condition, they used treadmills. For first timers this is great equipment, as they are built to cater each person's fitness condition and mature with you.

For many who take to walking choose the treadmill over going outside. When the weather is not good, effortlessly one can put off exercise. With the treadmill, they do realize that such explanations do not work and it helps them walk at their ease.

The question for beginners while starting a walking regimen is what duration would be appropriate. This varies for everyone depending on one's well being and health situation and also on one's target. Specialists in fitness and health care say that you should walk for half to one hour on a speed level where the heart rate is higher by 50 to 70 percent of their optimal heart rate.

You can easily find out your optimal heart rate by deducting your age from 220. Say you are 30 years old, so it would be nearly 190. Then, 50-70 percent of it is about 95-133. Decide to walk half to one hour keeping your heart rate anywhere from 95 -133 per minute for the whole exercising session(as per the advice).

Do not fret if you feel this is complex. Break the minutes into slots and walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes, 3 sessions a day. It is critical to keep walking each day or as many days of the week and it's equally important to keep the heart rate at 50-70 percent level at all times.

Did you know the effects of walking on treadmill show very early and your fitness regimen shows it early on. Each session becomes undemanding as time passes. Increase it by another level, as your maximum heart rate has elevated. When your heart rate is ranging from 60 - 70 percent of improved maximum heart rate, it makes your heart and overall health much better.

Though you may have not ever exercised or for a long while, begin with the treadmill to achieve health and weight loss. Treadmills currently available are comparable to coaches, as they watch the heart rate, calories used, pace, distance, etc. It is up to you to stroll, jog, or dash; treadmills cooperate and assist you in achieving your goals. - 22873

Bicycling California Can Be Exciting And Fulfilling At The Same Time

By Alison Addy

Downhill mountain bicycling represents a type from mountain bicycling case that means racing versus an adversary or running against time biking down an abrupt slope. Innermost events, gravity acts a big part in getting the bicyclers down but a few downward-sloping mountain bicycling fanciers wheel to make more velocity. Pedaling affords the cyclists many more velocity to speed up. This is the bang and Adrenalin race that several downhill mountain cycle riders enjoy.

What You Require as Downward-sloping Mountain Cycling

Downhill mountain bicycling is riskier than off-road mountain cycling since of the velocity implied. This is the ground why prudent downhiller's wear protective gear just in case they get a fall with their way down. Preventive equipment for downward-sloping mountain bicycling lets in a helmet (entire face is advisable and desirable), body armour and glove. These are the primary equipment required to help defend riders from latent trauma. All are made of light material to go with the light downhill cycles that are typically utilized in these cases.

A entire face helmet is a upland cycling helmet that's extremely like to a motorbike helmet that blankets the rider's full head. Due to the velocity and speed that bikers get on with the rocky ground and terrain wherever they might fall down, defending the head is of extreme importance. Suit of armour includes, shinpads, bracers and a body armour to protect the thorax and spinal column. Downward-sloping mountain bicycling typically have narrow tracks that are named technical tracks which can have a few obstructions on the track itself or at the sides.

Protecting the hands is fundamental since these are normally the 1st ones we instinctively stick out when we come down. A downward-sloping mountain bicycling fancier as well can't ride comfortably whenever his hands or fingers are painful due to scratches or hurts.

Downhill cycle

The downward-sloping bicycle is unlike from the off-road mountain bicycle in the feel that the fore suspension gets longer move than the off-road bicycle. Downward-sloping mountain bicycling as well involves heavier brakes (normally hydraulic) to assist command the descent of the wheeler. The lighter cycles get a clear vantage over heavy more clumsy cycles. The material utilized for these lighter cycles are as well specific since they've to be durable and simultaneously light sufficient.

Of Course You Can: whitewater rafting, step by step

By Christopher Pyle

You're going rafting, hooray!

You want to go but you have a list of worries: age, strength, what to wear, how to wear it, what shoes, you're not a great swimmer, is it dangerous, etc.

Don't worry, everyone has these questions. You'll be just fine. On the South Fork of the American River, in Northern California, some 65,000 + people go rafting each and every year. California whitewater rafting is an excellent stop to add to your vacation. If you've been invited, it's great to be cautious but you shouldn't let this stop you from attending the trip.

Follow these simple pointers and you'll get the most out of your rafting trip:

1. CALM your nerves and know, the professional company you're rafting with is well equipped and staffed to get you as safely as possible down the river.

2. Go with a can do ATTITUDE. It's alright to be nervous, this is something new, something exciting but don't be a whiny baby. Breathe, listen and enjoy.

3. There are two specific season to rafting, what to WEAR depends on the season:

* SPRING rafting ~ tends to be cooler, you should definitely consult the company you're rafting with but a thin wetsuit may be appropriate. More commonly, wetsuit booties or wool socks with your STRAP on sandals or old tennis shoes (more on foot ware below), shorts, wool sweater, splash jacket or dry top, possible wool cap. (this is all for cooler weather rafting).

* SUMMER rafting ~ Strap on sandal or old tennis shoes, shorts (you can wear a bathing suit but trunks/shorts are recommended for you're sitting on rubber and bathing suits tend to get moved off the bottom and you end up flashing the people behind you. Hey, we're not judging, this may be your intention but we just wanted to let you know), t-shirt, hat and sunglasses. Some companies wear helmets and you may or may not be able to wear a hat while rafting.

4. SUNBLOCK! You might want to think about an natural / biodegradable sunblock as research ties damaged ocean reefs to the more conventional chemical ones, so we might as well keep the river clean, if possible. Some ingredients to avoid: PABA, octinoxate, oxybenzone, 4-methylbenzylidene camphor and the preservative butylparaben.

5. SHOES - You need shoes that bind to the foot. This is important, without proper shoes you can be denied onto the raft. Old tennis shoes are good because you can tie them. Name brand examples you can Google: Teva, Chaco, & Keen all make sandals that bind to the foot. Water booties with a sole are fine. No one wants you swimming without your consent but if you do swim you want something on your feet.

6. RELAX, the GEAR you'll be wearing rocks! The flotation devices are Class V coast guard approved flotation devices, the highest rating. The rafts are some of the toughest boats on the water, they're made to commercial standards with commercial quality materials.

7. DEDICATE yourself to the adventure. If you're offered the opportunity to swim a rapid, do it! This is an incredible place to be (the river canyon), you ought to experience everything it has to offer.

8. DON'Ts ~ Don't bring a towel to the river! There's no place on the raft for a towel. One in your car, for a shower after your trip, sure, but not to the trip itself. Don't wear suntan oil. Oil + Skin + Rubber = swimming. Don't consume drugs or alcohol prior to your trip. Your participation is required to get the raft down the river, this can prove difficult if you're under the influence. Alcohol and rafting don't mix. The water is cold, alcohol lowers body temperature, long swims while inebriated are dangerous. Don't bring cigarettes down the river.

9. Pick a company that you feel comfortable with when you're speaking to them. No one can make you raft with them. If you're feeling uncomfortable, call another company. Most all prices are going to be within $10 of each other, so the importance for you, is comfort. Most all will provide a professional trip but there are different attitudes and energies to each company.

10. You will not be going off WATERFALLS!

11. Yes, chances are you're FIT enough. This is not an Olympic paddle crew time trial. You'll be pulling your weight along with 5 or 6 other people.

12. The trips are professionally GUIDED. You'll have a professional, competent guide in the back of the raft controlling the action.

13. If you're concerned with AGE, call the company and ask them what's appropriate for the trip you're considering.

14. Rafting is a great time. Please don't back out based on fear. You've got this lined up, now go knock it down, this is a great time. - 22873

5 Tips for Purchasing Cycling Gloves

By Michale Cansiter

If you are an avid cyclist, then you probably take part in the activity because it brings forth a lot of enjoyment. But, if you do not wear the proper equipment, you will discover your ability to enjoy your excursions will diminish. That is why so many avid cyclists prefer to use bicycle gloves when they head out on the streets or the trails.

Cycling gloves can help protect your hands from flesh tearing falls by providing a cushioned layer of protection, That is why cyclists choose bicycle gloves as part of their must have cycling equipment. Cycling gloves can also help the bicyclists maintain a good grip on the handle bars. Long rides can cause chaffing an blisters. A good pair of bicycle gloves can help retard this action and could be just what the doctor ordered.

Choose your cycling gloves wisely. There are many style and brands to choose form. If you keep reading you will discover that there are at least five important factors that you should be aware of when shopping for a good pair of cycling gloves.

First you should be very aware of the fit. A glove that is to small will defeat your purpose and may still cause blisters. A glove that is too small will be uncomfortable and may even restrict the natural function of the hand and fingers. It also follows that a glove that is too small and tight will cut off circulation causing the hand to get cold. Therefore never settle for a glove with an improper fit.

Stick with gloves that are made of leather. Yes, there are some nice gloves out there made from other materials. However, leather is the most durable and that means it will withstand much of what the elements throw at it. Also, if taken care of properly, leather gloves will last a long time. That will reduce the problem of perpetually going out and purchasing new gloves.

Absorbency is also a very important attribute for cycling gloves to possess. When you are out and about riding, you may run into problems with the elements such as rain or simple dampness in the air. These can all cause problems with the gloves and degrade them. Gloves need the ability to absorb and dissipate moisture or else they may degrade in a short period of time. Also, it is important that the gloves can absorb perspiration as well since this can lead to the degrading of the gloves.

Gloves that come with liners are helpful for cold weather since they will greatly increase comfort. If the gloves do not come with a liner, then it is suggested to purchase the liners separately. Again, they will come in handy during the cold winter months.

Cycling gloves comes in fingered, fingerless, or the clawed variety. The clawed variety has a finger addition to help work the hand brakes. Liners in cold weather should have the ability to wick moisture away from your hands. If you are not sure what kind of gloves will work best for you try both kinds and then decide. - 22873

Cannondale Road Bikes: Find Out What Kind of Rider You Are

By Chad Rodriguez

It is important to know what type of rider you are if you are looking to purchase a new bike. To be able to find the bike and accessories that really fit you, you have to know what type of rider you are. Road riders usually fall into these four groups: cyclocross rider, elite road rider, performance road rider, and the multisport rider. I'll introduce you to each group, and which bikes are best for each style.

Cyclocross Road Rider: If you enjoy the fall chill and a mud covered bike, this is you. The cyclocross rider loves the Cannondale Cyclocross series. The frame is light weight and all aluminum, which helps make it a true all purpose bike. There are three 2009 models: Cyclocross 2, Cyclocross 5, and Cyclocross 6.

Elite Road Rider: You are an elite road rider if you daydream of riding the best climbing bike all the way to the top of the Tourmalet or racing ahead on a super efficient bike. There are more bikes to choose from in this category, which are the SuperSix, Six, and Caad9.

The SuperSix is made of HI-MODulus, unidirectional carbon fiber that gives a precise and efficient ride. There are four 2009 models: SuperSix HI-MOD Team, SuperSix HI-MOD Red, SuperSix HI-MOD 1, SuperSix HI-MOD 3.

The Cannondale Six is a top choice for racers all over the world. They are full carbon and have the same pro-Tour features as the other Elite bikes. The tubes on the front triangle are oversized and help to give a spectacular performance. The hourglass shaped seatstays give a vibration damping comfort that gives a competitive edge. There are six 2009 models: Six Carbon 1, Six Carbon 3, Six Carbon 5, Six Carbon 6, Six 5, and Six 6.

The last line for the elite rider is the CAAD9 line. It is an aluminum bike that mixes comfort with race winning characteristics. The three 2009 models are the CAAD9 5, CAAD9 6, and CAAD9 7.

How to Pick the Right Bike

By Pat Williams

When you first start shopping for a bike you will notice that there are many different types of bike to choose from. Some people want a hardcore mountain bike, others will stick to the road and still others want to be reclined like on a recumbent bike. Before you decide which bike is right for you, you should take these five suggestions into consideration.

What kind of rider are you? Are you someone who looks for the tallest peak, climbs and curves up the rugged cliffs and lives by the way of bike? Chances are if you are a bike super-enthusiast, you probably won't need to follow these steps. Consider how often you'll be riding on the road vs. trails. Are you looking for exercise or a cool way to get around or both? Are you using this bike as a means to commute to work? Answering these questions will be a great way to help narrow your search.

Consider how much money you want to spend. Bicycles vary greatly in price depending on how specialized you want to get. A high end mountain bike with expensive components can easily cost around 4 thousand dollars! That is more than my first 2 cars, combined. There is no way a beginner would need that much bike. Figure out a sensible price range before you go shopping.

Where to shop? There is no reason to shop for anything short of the best deal. Though that may not always mean the cheapest, but rather the best value. Research big chains, small bike shops that you'll have in your town and smaller internet bike shops. You may find that big box stores offer cheap pricing, but it may not be the right bike for you. In addition, there are rarely experts available to help you with your decision. Local bike shops offer expert advice and often have a great selection, but can be intimidating and expensive. Internet bike shops can offer great pricing and expert advice, but you may have to wait a day or two to get your bike.

Get in the comfort zone!! There are few things as frustrating as buying a new product and finding that it is generally unusable. A new sweater, shoes, or a new bike that is uncomfortable to use. How does your body feel on the bike? Do you prefer to lean forward or sit up straight? Do you want a big comfy seat or a thin sleek seat for racing? Know your zone!

Pay attention to the type of wheels the bike has. Mountain bike tires make riding on pavement more difficult and if there are no mudguards also more messy. Wheels also account for a significant portion of the weight of the bicycle. Lighter, stronger wheels will increase the performance of the bike.

Biking is a great way to accomplish a multitude of activities; exercise, exploring, commuting, cruising. I encourage all people to get out there and find the ride that works for you. These tips should put you well on your way to finding a great bike. - 22873

Paintball Games Versus Airsoft

By Jenteal Jones

To fulfill their combat fantasies by role playing, hordes of people have been satisfied by airsoft. If you are seeking Rambo type situations and your dream of hiding in the bush and stalking your human prey then airsoft might be the game just for you.

Much resembling the paintball game, airsoft players are broken into teams and then sent out into wooded terrain to try and eliminate the players on the other team or teams. Surprisingly, the guns used in airsoft look and react just like real automatic weapons. This resemblance and near authenticity makes way for a superior role playing situation.

If we compare paintball and airsoft then we find that while the guns shoot small gel-like paint filled capsules in regular paintball play, while in airsoft, the guns shoot small plastic BB like pellets that will harmlessly bounce off the individual. Airsoft also requires just like paintball protective gear especially for the eyes.

Airsoft pellets may be harmless to the body but a direct hit to the eye by any flying object can be very unsafe and should be taken seriously. Eye protective covering worn while playing airsoft games or when you go paintballing should completely protect the eyes. To wear a full paintball mask will be the best protection while playing either sport as it will protect the entire head and the most importantly the area around the eyes.

With passing years paintball has grown in fame, airsoft also does not lag behind. You can confuse the two due to striking similarity between the two and you don't have the familiarity with them. While treking through the woods, armed with rifles and other equipment can be found in regular paintball play, this type of combat role play is offered by airsoft too.

Possibility of training with live ammo rounds or even blanks in areas that are difficult is avoidable and in such scenario the low impact of the airsoft pellets makes it easy. When airsoft is used in this situation, participants train in real-life conditions and environments, which makes it possible for them to enhance their combat skills and to acquire know how of what combat is really like.

On the front of outdoor competitive sport paintball airsoft marks a relevant presence. Both games are acquiring people's interest with paintball leading ahead. Out of the two, whatever you choose whether it is airsoft or paint ball, each sport is sure to give you a feeling of team spirit. - 22873

Find Cheap Treadmills for Sale

By Virginia Slate

If you're looking to get into shape and look good in a new pair of jeans a new treadmill can be a great investment. One of the best ways to save money is to look for a cheap treadmill that was previously purchased by someone else who has decided they no longer want it. This could be because the treadmill is taking up too much room in their house or because they simply don't use it as much as they expected when it was first purchased.

Even if it's raining outside you can still get your walk or run in for the day if you have a home treadmill. No one likes to travel out to the gym if they don't have to, and fitness memberships can be very expensive. Once you have a treadmill at home you'll wonder what you ever did without one. In the long run they can save you a lot of time and money.

It may surprise you to learn that there are many people looking to get rid of their treadmill. These treadmills are often in great shape and haven't been used much. You can also find a lot of these cheap treadmills online. Many stores want to keep the newer models of treadmills in stock so they often have sales when they want to get rid of some of their older treadmills they have on their inventory. These older treadmill models might not come with some of the latest features but chances are if all you really need is to get a good workout you'll be happy with what they have to offer.

You can also look in some of the online classified listings in your area to see if anyone is advertising that they have a used treadmill for sale. Usually these people will be happy to take whatever price you offer just to get the machine out of their house. This can be a good way to a great deal on a treadmill that would cost you twice as much or more if you bought it new at the store.

Visiting local stores in your area can be a great way to see the different types of treadmills available for sale. You should get a feel for what you'd like to buy including different features before searching for treadmills online. It can be difficult to visualize the differences between the cheaper treadmills and the more expensive ones just by looking at pictures online and reading descriptions. However, looking at the treadmills and trying them out in person will be much more helpful.

A great way to save money on a new treadmill is price matching treadmills you find in person to the same models available online. Some stores are willing to negotiate on price just to make a sale. Just make sure you bring all the information you need when visiting local stores including prices of the treadmills you find online.

Whether you want to buy a new or used treadmill it's a good idea to do a little bit of homework before you make your final purchase. While it's always good to save money you don't want to compromise on quality when it comes to making your purchase. - 22873

Family fun in New York's Catskill Mountains

By LJ James

Right now for most Americans money is getting a bit tight. We all still want to have those great family trips that we take every year, but we have to watch how much we spend. Well I just had a great time with my family in New York's Catskill Mountains that didn't put us all in the poor house.

I was in the Catskill area with Family for the Christmas Holidays. My younger Sister has three kids. Which makes me an Uncle and I always enjoy spending time with my two Nieces and Nephew, The Youngest is 6 years old and the oldest is 13 years old. Now when the age gap is that far apart it can make finding something they all want to do very difficult. Well We where also looking for something to do that not only the kids but us adults could enjoy as well.

It took some time but my younger Brother came up with the idea of Snow Tubing. It sounded good to me. The Kids loved the idea and so did my Sister, Her Husband and even my Mother. OK so then came the part where the money comes in. I called up Windham Mountain to get their Snow tubing times and rates (http://www.windhammountain.com/mountain/tubing) . When they told me their snow tubing rates I was surprised as they where not too bad $20 a person for two hours $25 for four hours and they had a Friday night special of only $15 dollars from 4pm to 9pm ! Only $15 for Five hours, I was sold as it just happened to be Friday.

So the group of Nine of us piled into two vehicles and we where off to do some tubing on Windham's 650 foot snow covered snow tubing slope. We where Lucky as the weather was warm for December in the Catskill Mountains. The Slope was perfect, there where about ten lanes to slide down and the Snow Tubing staff kept the line moving.

Let me see if I can explain how everything went. When we got up to the Slope we grabbed a large canvased covered Snow Tube then picked a lane. We could go down the lane in groups or by ourselves. I have to say my first trip down caught me by Surprise. It has been a few years since I have been sleigh riding but I know I never went that fast down the old hill. Now hearing me say how fast the slope is, may make you think you or your kids might be scared. Don't worry about that, I saw kids as young as three years old tubing down the Slope and they were loving it!

At the bottom of the hill there are mats placed at the end of every lane to slow you down safely, Along with attendants ready to help you if you needed it( I didn't see anyone who needed any help). Now anyone who has gone Sleigh riding as a kid remembers the trip down the hill was always the fun part, It's the walk back up that is work. Well not at Windham's snow tube park. The canvases that cover the snow tubes have long straps that hook up to a conveyor so all you have to do is sit in your tube and then slowly slide back up the Slope! The Straps also make it perfect so the attendants can spin you (only if you ask nicely) as you are sliding down the slope.

After about three hours of snow tubing everyone but my brother and his girlfriend was getting tired. So we went into the large Ski lodge, which is only about ten feet from the snow tubing lanes. While inside the lodge we all enjoyed some nice hot Chocolate while sitting by the Fire place.

I am not a big fan of winter activities, But I have to say we all had a great time even if we didn't make it the full five hours. Life can often get a little crazy and too fast paced, Every once in a while we all need some affordable old fashion family fun, (With a few modern convinces of course)

Families in NZ or Australia Who Enjoy Biking Should Check Out This New Child Bike Seat

By Joyce Russell

One of the most enjoyable things about living in Australia is the fact that going for bike rides as a family is such a great way to spend your free time. My husband and I have a 2 year old girl who enjoys going for bike rides with us but is too young to ride her own bike, so we were looking for a good child bike seat.

My husband was using a traditional rear seat for our daughter but this meant that it was hard to keep an eye on her unless I cycled behind him - something which isn't much fun when you are out as a family. I was tired of having to hang back every few minutes just to check on our youngest and needed a solution which would allow us to bike next to each other.

I tried everywhere to get a child bike seat that was more 'family friendly' but all the places selling bike seats for children seemed only stock a few different models. Then I came across ibert.co.nz which sells one of the most unique child bikes seats I have ever seen.

The child bike seat in question is the SafeTSeat which is front mounted onto an adult's bike right behind the handle bars. This might sound a little dangerous for the child's legs but they are totally protected by high impact plastic leg sections which go on either side of the handle bars.

Unlike many of the child bike seats that I have come across the SafeTSeat is easy to mount and remove so the adult rider can easily switch from carrying a child to riding alone. Previous to this my husband found it too much of a hassle to remove and re-mount our previous child's seat so he left it on which he wasn't too pleased about.

When I first saw the design of the child bike seat I was initially concerned that using it would shift the centre of gravity for the rider and make balancing quite difficult. I shouldn't have worried as it doesn't make any difference to the balance of the rider.

As well as the practical benefits of this child bike seat there are also the social benefits. My husband, myself and our oldest daughter can chat away to our youngest as she is sat in front of her dad. No more turning round or hanging back to check on her and she loves being the centre of attention.

The SafeTSeat might look unusual but it is now our preferred child bike seat as it is so much fun for our daughter to use and we feel that is strong, safe and exciting. - 22873

Learn How To Skateboard

By Corey Spinner

When skateboarding begun, it was basically just used as a way for going from one place to another. However, today skateboarding has developed into a sport complete with extreme stunts and much more. Pro skaters have been pushing the envelope in their sport ever since the very beginning.

There are a number of specific types of skateboards all designed to perform different types of skateboarding. This includes longboards, wide boards and more. There are aso all different styles of wheels, decks and other parts of the skateboard to choose from.

If you are planning to start out in the sport of skateboarding, it is important to know that if you plan on developing the tricks of the trade, you will probably eventually get hurt in the process. Just like the skateboarders did before you, you just need to keep getting up and going again and again until you finally get it.

Getting injured is definitely all part of the joy in skateboarding. However, you still should try to protect yourself with some good protective equipment like a helmets and pads. I know that sometimes these are not always the nicest things to have to wear but it sure beats an injury.

One other thing that you will certainly see more when you start skating around your city is the number of no-skating signs saying that skateboarding is not permitted in that area. It is good to know where you are permitted to legally skate. It takes the fun out of it if you keep getting in trouble for skating in the wrong places. There are skateparks located in almost any town.

For someone who has been skating for awhile or just getting into it, there are always new challenges to test yourself with. - 22873

How to Choose a Bicycle

By Pat Walker

Spring is in the air and the sun is setting a little bit later every day. These are perfect afternoons for going for a bike ride. If you are looking to cruise your neighborhood, the boardwalk or some light biking trails you should consider getting a comfort bike. But what other considerations should you make when deciding which bike to purchase?

A main consideration when buying a bike, or anything for that matter, is the size of the budget. Bikes can found in an enormously different price range. Bikes are available for close to one hundred dollars upward to multiple thousands. If you are a beginner a price range closer to the low hundreds will be appropriate and will be able to find a bike that will last a while and perform for you when you need it.

Another consideration is figuring out where the bike will actually be ridden. Whether you plan on riding on pavement, on dirt trails, on a boardwalk, or on a greenway will significantly affect the type of bike you purchase. A comfort bike is usually the best match for the needs of a beginning biker.

A smaller bike shop should be able to help you with most of your questions where as a big box store will not be much help. Usually the bikes for sale in a big box are built to last a long time with no regard for performance. You don't have to spend a fortune to get performance out of your bike but you will probably need to spend a little bit more than what you see in your local big box.

A local bike shop will have someone on staff that is able to answer your questions and help you narrow your focus when looking at bicycles. You will need to remember, however, that they are salesman and usually bike enthusiasts. They will try to sell you on the latest gadgets and upscale components. Its not that they are getting greedy, they just truly believe in how great these components are. As a beginner you do not need to go anywhere near these components. Don't get taken in or you will blow your whole budget very quickly.

The best way to figure out if a bike is right is to take it for a test drive. A friend having a model you would consider buying is the ideal situation but some stores may let you take it for a quick run. If a friend has a bike try to take it on terrain you will be riding on a lot and get a feel for the performance and comfort of the bike.

That should be enough to consider for now. Buying a bike may seem a little overwhelming right now but with a little research and some determination you will end up with the perfect bike. There are many options available so distancing yourself from the equation and looking at the bikes with a cool head will help you to choose the right bike. Happy riding. - 22873

What Surfboarding Is All About

By Daniel Thomas

A good thing about surfing, especially if you are in a tropical area with a lot of sun, is that you will be exposed to the opposite sex all of the time. If you are surfing everyday you should have a good tan and be in pretty good shape, have no problem finding dates, and most of all have great skill in riding waves, we hope.

If you are a beginner and not sure where to start when getting a surfboard, try and get one that is the same height as you are. Make sure you can afford it, and just use it for practice, as you start surfing more you will make more surfer friends more experienced then you, ask questions to learn more about board types and such.

It does not take long for a beginning surfer become very comfortable with using surfing terms around friends. Such as the type of surfboard they plan to purchase after the art of surfing has been entrained in their memory.

For the beginner a short board will be the best option, but some more experienced surfers prefer long boards, which are a bit more difficult to learn on and much harder to ride. Style is also another choice of what surfers choose from. It could be the design on their surfboard, their surf fin, or just what they are wearing before they get in the water.

One common mistake that beginning surfers make is buying the most least expensive surfboard they can get their hands on. They are so rushed to get in the water and start surfing. Then they will come to a realization that they board was crap, or maybe they will see that surfboards require some light maintenance.

This could happen because the surfboard has been damaged in some way while surfing and is showing signs that it retains water. If they had done some research through the internet, they could have learned to recognize the warning signs for a surfboard that should not be used anymore.

Another factor that comes into play is if the previous owner kept up the maintenance of the surfboard. Waxing a surfboard before every use if very critical, if you do not wax before every use your feet will not stay on the board right, you will be falling off looking stupid.

If you are going into the water, for the first time with your surfboard you will more than likely be very nervous. Do not worry about the surfers that are around you laughing at you, they will anyways. Practice sitting on the board and paddling when a wave comes in. If you have a friend that can teach you, they this is the best route that you can go. - 22873

Tour of Nevada City - Excitement from Start to Finish

By Steve Tour

One of the well-known cycling events is the Nevada City Classic; it's one of the oldest bicycle race in California and the largest on the Western Seaboard. Bike riders will deluge the quaint town of Nevada City in June on the 21st of 2009, for the annual Nevada City Classic Father's bike run, in the stunning foothills of the gold country.

The Tour of Nevada City is a big event in Nevada City. On the day of the race, the city's population of 3001 swells by several thousand spectators, who line the course in front of old vintage Victorian homes as they cheer the cyclists while they negotiate a fast, hilly and technical course. The streets of the historic district are draped with flags and bunting giving you a feel that the Nevada City Classic is a race for the strong as they maneuver their way up the steep hills.

Racers have often said there is nowhere on the cycling tour that draws the crowds and levels of enthusiasm they see at the Nevada City Bicycle Classic.

In the early sixties, Charlie Allert, a bike enthusiasm launched the first Nevada City Classic, it was originally "The Tour of Nevada City" but cyclists now know it as the Nevada City Classic, the "toughest one day bicycle tour in America."

The Nevada City Classic is the most complex one day-course in America. The race is 1.1 miles, with seven-turns, counter-clockwise loop with 120'+/- of climbing per lap, reaching speeds of 50+ mph on the straight-away downhill across the start/finish. The Nevada City Classic course is 1/3-downhill, 1/3-uphill and 1/3 rolling/flats.

Action begins at 1 p.m. and is usually complete by about 6:30 p.m. The Tour of Nevada City attracts top-notch riders in men's and ladies', juniors' and masters' races. Senior and professional riders representing top U.S. cycling teams are expected to race in The Nevada City Classic.

The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce is the official sponsor of the Nevada City Classic along with NCNCA which hosts 5 more top of the line cycling races throughout Northern California.

You can find out more information about the Annual 49th Nevada City Classic by calling the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at (530) 265-2187.

Nevada City has a wealth of outdoor activities.

You will find Nevada City in the foothills of the Sierra just above 2,500' elevation. It's only a1 hour trip from Sacrament using eastbound Interstate 80 and northbound Highway 49. Coming from Reno it is only a 90 minute ride via westbound 80 through Highway 20. - 22873

The Benefits Skateboarding Offers

By Jason Lorrine

The sport of skateboarding is growing fast. About 30 years ago no one even paid attention to a deck with four wheels on it. These days there are skate parks being built every day all over the world, and the sport of skateboarding has reached the youngest of crowds, the kids.

When you look at a picture of your average skateboarder, their appearance may not always be pleasant to some people. As they thing it is reserved for mostly the younger crowd, who do not get along with family or other people and stick to themselves.

For the die hard skateboarding dude this may be true, but this is the same for what people love about all other types of sports like baseball and hockey. If you are a die hard skateboarder you are more than likely going to be labeled as a skateboarder, in some cases maybe even a rebel sport, which is not always true there are much worse things that kids could be doing with their time.

Skateboarding, like many other sports and activities, has their benefits. For starters, skateboarding gets people off the couch and outside being active. We all know that inactivity is one of the most dangerous lifestyles to adopt.

I'd suggest that a teen or young adult who spends hour after hour doing hobbies that are inactive is actually in more danger than a teen or young adult doing an extreme activity like skateboarding. Children who start skateboarding at a young age learn to love physical activity and will often enjoy the health benefits of that activity for years to come.

Another great benefit from skateboarding for kids, is making friends. No one wants to skateboard, or learn how to skateboard by themselves. Having a friend there with you to learn with and skate with makes it a whole funner sport altogether.

Skateboarding is not the cheapest sport for a kid to take part in, but by far it is not the most expensive either. You can find a fully assembled deck for under a hundred bucks, knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet for around 20 dollars, and shoes from about 30 dollars. There are lots of free skate parks that are out there world wide also.

So as you can see there are many great benefits for kids to get into skateboarding. Skateboarders in general are not a bad crown of people, no worse than football or basketball players, a sport is a sport and this is just a newer one that got a bad reputation in the beginning. - 22873

Paintball Fundamentals And Basics

By Mark Tuttle

Paintball can be suitably termed as a physical and challenging sport which requires strategic and tactical thinking by the players. Numerous types of paintball games exist which attract audiences. It can be a very stimulating game to watch. To play paintball you will see it in areas such as woods, arenas and fields specially made for "rec paintball." Paintball can be played in several ways.

A logical name of paintball is woodsball when it is played in the woods. Large woodsball fields may be used for scenario games or war-type games. Few woodsball fields are well prepared to avoid undergrowth. Numerous players might play woodsball at one time or the number of players can be small too. However this kind of paintball is more strategic and as a result slower than the paintbaal played in arenas or rec facilities.

Smaller fields are required for playing arena paintball. Such fields are surrounded by protective fences to save the spectators from being hit by stray and paintballs. Manmade structures may also be a part of these fields sometimes, such as empty utility line spools, bunkers, and inflatable structures. Speedball and xball are the two types of games played in arenas.

A field that is empty except for inflatable obstacles and roofless bunkers that are distributed equally on each half of the field is used to play Speedball. For spectators the speedball format is more exciting and for players it is more challenging.

Professional Xball matches last 50 minutes, split into two halves. Amateur Xball games have shorter matches. Xball is a team game with multiple rounds of Center Flag played until the clock runs out. A team which wins a round gets one point. When the clock runs out the team leading with more points is declared as the winning team for the match.

In comparison to other types of paintball, Rec style is more freeform. Usually it is played in noticeably open areas with manmade structures or bunkers providing cover. Rec paintball is such a game that it can either be played by few people or by hundreds of players in re-enactment games.

As per the requirement of paintball, teamwork is absolutely essential regardless of the type of game being played. When some team members are moving through the field other players will guard and some will give off cover shots when it is needed. Teamwork is thoroughly supported by communication. - 22873
